Instructions for managers who receive notification from a SOLID employee that they have tested positive for COVID-19 or reports to have been in close contact* with a confirmed case:
Remain calm and use discretion. The employee is likely to be anxious. Ask them to put on gloves and a mask (if not already wearing) and gather their personal items. Ask them to meet you outside or in a place you can be discreet while maintaining 6 feet of separation.
Example:

The employee’s anonymity is protected by HIPPA [Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act]. DO NOT INFORM OTHER EMPLOYEES. This is the job of Human Resources who will provide guidance on how to inform other employees to maintain confidentiality.
Example:
“By the way, I am not allowed to tell your coworkers that you contracted COVID-19, the only persons that should know about this are me and the HR team. Everyone else will be told that they were in close contact with “a coworker who tested positive.”
Instruct the employee to go home and self-isolate following the guidance from the CDC for at least 14 days. Coordinate return to work date with the instruction of Human Resources.
